  • PROJECT INFORMATION

Sierra Sands Unified School District (SSUSD) experienced extensive property damage to their school facilities impacted from the earthquakes of July 4–5, 2019, centered in China Lake/Ridgecrest, CA.  Of the nine schools that make up the SSUS District, two elementary schools suffered the most structural damage.  After a through assessment of damages, the District issued contracts to Colombo Construction and Ordiz-Melby to provide Exigent and Non-Exigent Earthquake Construction Repair/Recovery Services at multiple school sites.

Richmond, the oldest school and located closest to the epicenter, suffered the most structural damage forcing the school’s closure and operations were relocated to Vieweg.  The relocation/modernization of Vieweg encompassed preconstruction and construction services for 11 slab-on-grade relocatable classroom and restroom buildings, removal and replacement of shade structures and numerous ADA upgrades.  Additional portable classrooms were moved to Vieweg in order to accommodate Richmond’s student programming and repositioning.

Monroe Middle, Faller ES, Gateway ES, and Vieweg ADA upgrades incorporated new accessible parking and campus public paths of travel, new accessible ramps in designated areas as required, removal and replacement of shade structures including concrete slabs and curbing, upgrade of underground utilities, restriping, and pole signage at driveways.
