PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Phase II and III stadium improvements at Bakersfield Junior College’s Memorial Stadium consisted of preconstruction and construction services for upgrades and improvements to include modernization of restrooms and concessions at grade level. Replacement of field storage building, replacement of public address system, replacement of back-up generators, upgrades to egress lighting, replacement of stadium field lighting and scoreboard, new enclosed electrical power and new power equipment replacement.
The Bakersfield College Memorial Stadium Improvement project was funded through a $502.8 Million Measure J Bond which Kern County voters approved in November 2016.
Bakersfield College is the second oldest junior college in California behind Santa Barbara City College. Memorial Stadium, originally completed in 1955, was finished before the remainder of the campus opened to accept students in 1956 when BC moved from its original location on the downtown campus of Bakersfield High School where it was founded in 1913 to the new campus in Northeast Bakersfield.
